The NT 2021 State Pairs Championships held on the weekend was the Final event in the State Calendar.

In the Men’s section winners from the first day of play won through to the second day Quarter Finals: Kim Redshaw and Daniel Baker [Darwin], Dimitri Hnaris and Ian Smith [Darwin], Mark Durand and Anthony Mason [Darwin] , Coryn Huddy and Warren Corowa [Darwin], Trystan Smallacombe and Mark Malogorski [Composite Darwin/Nightcliff], Pete De Greenlaw and Barry Orr [Darwin], Franz Kratschmer and John Colwill [Darwin]  and James Dempster and Greg Bradley [Darwin].

Notable performance in the Sectionals was by Junior Eamon Wibberly from Darwin who combined with his Dad, Peter to defeat Section favourites Jason Wholahan and John McCallion to allow Redshaw and Baker to go through to the Finals.

Redshaw and Baker went through into the Semis against Corowa and Huddy and on the other side Smallacombe and Malogorski faced up against Kratschmer and Colwill.

The favourites for the event Smallacombe and Malogorski were taken down in a thrilling Semi-Final by Kratschmer and Colwill.  John Colwill was in fine form drawing close bowls and putting Nightcliff Champion Mark Malogorski under huge pressure. Franz Kratschmer also stood firm against Trystan Smallacombe playing some awesome draws combined with some unorthodox, but productive, up-shots. A very close game with Kratschmer and Colwill winning 11/7 over 15 ends.

Daniel Baker and Kim Redshaw proved to strong for Warren Corowa and Coryn Huddy defeating them 18/9.

It was then an all Darwin teams final in the Mens State Pairs for 2021 with Daniel Baker and Kim Redshaw taking on giant killers, Franz Kratschmer and John Colwill.  Despite having strong support from the crowd Kratschmer and Colwill were not able to hold the form that got them through the Semis and despite putting in a good performance they were defeated by Daniel Baker and Kim Redshaw 19/10.

In the Ladies Quarter Finalists Pauline McKenzie and Jen Sullivan [Darwin] defeated Lisa Hambour and Anita Rhook [Darwin] 21/5, Jill Tiller and Elice Crisp [Nightcliff] defeated Jen Redshaw and Deb Vallance [composite Darwin/Nightcliff] 11/10, Colleen Orr and Siobhan Tootell [Darwin] defeated Karen Lane and Sez James 16/14 and Catherine Farrell and Louise Hicks [Nightcliff] defeated Tania Humphris and Jodie Reichstein 14/13.

After defeating last years winners Lane and James in Quarters, Colleen Orr and Siobhan Tootell never looked back defeating Catherine Farrell and Louise Hicks 16/7 in the semi. On the other side of the draw Pauline McKenzie and Jen Sullivan had a mighty game against Jill Tiller and Elise Crisp narrowly winning 11/8.

Colleen Orr and Siobhan Tootell won the Grand Final in top form against Runners Up Pauline McKenzie and Jen Sullivan.  This gives Orr her third title and Tootell’s  second title for the 2021 State Titles.

All winning teams head off to represent the NT in the 2021 National Championships on the Gold Coast in October.
