Territory Mixed Pairs Final went down to the wire
Darwin legend Kathy McGowan and Nightcliff’s Mark Malogorski have taken their second title in three years after defeating Jen Sullivan (Darwin) and Mal Trattles (Katherine) in a tight match that went to the last bowl.
The State Mixed Pairs hosted by the Darwin Bowls and Social Club has continued to be one of the most popular events in the Bowls NT calendar with 28 teams entered to compete for the championship.
The sectional rounds saw top quality bowls, from some very competitive teams. There were several draws and a few upsets along the way before the final 8 won through to the quarter finals on the Sunday.
Previous winners Kathy McGowan and Mark Malogorski were amongst those despite losing the final sectional match in a close game to Tony Duffield and Deanne Harrison. McGowan and Malogorski’s strong showing in the first round gave them a clear advantage and pathway to the finals.
The semi finals saw some good matches with Mal Trattles and Jen Sullivan accounting for Nightcliff’s Martin Miller and Darwin’s Karen Lane. Miller and Lane lost 4 shots in the last end trying to chase some shots for the win in a match that went down to the last end.
The other semi final saw McGowan and Malogorski clear winners over Colleen and Barry Orr (both Darwin) in a solid match that saw some quality bowls.
Thank you to Darwin Bowls and Social Club for hosting a top event and to the umpire John Lilliwhite who officiated on both days and was in constant demand.
