August 2019 -Top End Bowls Carnivals still a drawcard for Interstate Bowlers after 40 years.

For several weeks Bowlers from all States in Australia and from as far away as New Zealand have converged on Darwin for the annual Top End Bowls Carnivals.   Champion Bowlers flew in to compete,including Scott Chamberlain and Scottie DeJong from the Goldcoast, Ian Taylor from NSW, Barry Hooker from BrokenHill, a large contingent from Wanneroo in WA and a huge number of players fromVictorian Clubs.

Darwin Bowls Club Carnival has grown in recent years and is now a Ranked Event with Bowls Australia and winners achieve Ranking Points in the National Rankings.

The Ladies and Men’s Carnivals have been hosted by Nightcliff Sports and Bowls Club and Darwin Bowls and Social Club and have been running for over forty years. The Club’s rely on the support and sponsorship of many community organisations toensure a successful Carnival including Bendigo Bank, the Buff Club, NT General Stores, Ratatouile Bistro, Fuse Hair and many of our local Tourist Destinations have donated vouchers.

The Darwin Men’s Carnival concluded with local champion, Trystan Smallacombe taking out the Men’s Singles title against up and coming Jonathon Carr from Darwin Bowls Club.

The Nightcliff Mens Carnival has seen some excellent performances from one of Nightcliff’s young guns, 15-year-old Stanley Cox who made it to the Quarter Finals in the Men’s Singles and finished fourth in the Men’s Fours and Triples. He was beaten by Gary Chilcott from Dromana. Gary had drawn Trystan Smallacombe in the Semi and in the other Semi Nightcliff Bowlers Andrew Whiteand Mark Malagoski played off for a spot in the Final.

Mark Malagoski won against Trystan Smallacombe in the final of the Nightcliff Mens Carnival Singles.
