Colleen Orr fought through the sections and took out her third title running, whilst last years Men’s runner up Trystan Smallacombe went the extra step to take this years singles title.
The Ladies championship attracted one of the largest numbers for some time creating four sections which were keenly fought out for a semi final spot. Despite the strong competition in each section, the section winners ended with strong wins and were well clear to progress into the final rounds. In the semi finals, Jen Sullivan and Barb McNeill played a really tough match with both players refusing to give any ground. Sullivan came out on top winning at the end 21/17. Colleen Orr played the up and coming Lauren Kingsley from Katherine in a good match winning 21/13 to progress into the final with Sullivan. The final was a good match but Orr’s experience stood out and the match ended with Orr beating Sullivan 21/6.
The Men’s Quarter finals were hotly contested with Lee Farrell, Trystan Smallacombe, Mark Diamond and Tim Hyatt progressing into the semi finals. Both Lee Farrell and Trystan Smallacombe were in top form and accounted for their opponents to progress into the final. Farrell overtook Diamond 21/6 whilst Smallacombe accounted for Hyatt 21/14 after a hard fought match.
The final was a cracker with both Farrell and Smallacombe at the top of their game. It was not clear who would win until the final bowl which saw Smallacombe win 21/19. The crowd were very appreciative of a great match.
